- Hello...just wanted to start by saying that this is a cool group without
- near the amount of flamage on some other groups. Grats. :)
-
- Now, for my two questions:
-
- Number 1:
- Where do I find a ping command for windows? I have Trumpet Winsock up and
- running just fine (this is Windows' definintion of just fine *smile*). I have
- WinQVT and Winsock Finger...so I guess I would need either a windows ping
- or a windows traceroute...where may I find this? and are there other neat
- little Windows Inet tools I'm missing?
-
- Number 2:
- When I open a new terminal (telnet) window from WinQVT (Win 3.1 version),
- it will remember previous sites I logged into since I first load it.
- Is there a way to "remember" sites that I've logged onto in previous
- runnings of WinQVT?
-
- Thanks in advance.

- I bet it's that .AU files are 16-bit sound files, and the PC speaker driver
- (if you have it installed at all, which you may not) only supports 8-bit
- sound. I have a program called WHAM (Waveform Hold and Modify, if I am not
- mistaken) that I picked up off of one of the standard PC FTP sites... it
- will convert them to 8-bit sounds and play them. (Not automatically,
- though; I double-click on the audio link in Mosaic, WHAM loads up with the
- .AU file loaded in, and then I have to select "Convert to 8-bit".)
-
- Hope that this helps.

-
- Hi All,
-
- I have a problem using the PC Eudora program. Thanks in advance for any
- comments and suggestions.
-
- Background Info.
- ================
- 1. I have a shell account with netcom. (pchan@netcom.com)
- 2. I also have a SLIP account with netcom. (Spchan@pchan.slip.netcom.com)
- 3. I applied a custom/personal domain name (@company_name.com)
- (it is not working yet)
- 4. My system is running MS Windoes 3.1 + WinSock
- 5. My objective for having the SLIP account is to receive email addressed to:
- "anything@company_name.com" or "anything@pchan.slip.netcom.com". BTW,
- I have sent a few emails to "anything@pchan.slip.netcom.com". They are
- now somewhere in the cyberspace to be retrived.
-
- I have tried:
- =============
- 6. I have installed PC Eudora Version 1.4 for Windows to my system.
- 7. In the Eudora program, my POP Account parameter is "pchan@netcom.com"
- and the SMTP server parameter is "netcom.com". I believe these two
- parameters are correct.
- 8. When logining to netcom, I would receive email addressed to my shell
- account: "pchan@netcom.com". But I was expecting emails addressed to
- my slip account: "anything@pchan.slip.netcom.com".
- 9. Netcom told me:
- "THESE MESSAGES (email addressed to 'anything@pchan.slip.netcom.com')
- WILL NOT BE RETRIEVABLE BY POP. YOU MUST RUN AN SMTP SERVER AND THE
- SMTP SERVER MUST DELIVER THE MAIL TO A FILE ON YOUR HOST WHICH YOU
- CAN READ THE MESSAGES FROM USING YOUR OWN MAIL USER AGENT"
-
- My questions:
- =============
- 10. Is it possible at all to receive email addressed to my slip account?
- (i.e. "anything@pchan.slip.netcom.com") Either receiving it from my
- shell account on netcom's UNIX machine or from my PC/SLIP connection
- will be fine.
- 11. Where do I run the SMTP server as mentioned in #9? On netcom's UNIX
- machine or on my PC. Is PC Eudora a SMTP server program? How can I
- run it as a SMTP server. If it is not, can anyone recommend me one
- please. (BTW, is Eudora just an off-line mail reader?)
- 12. What is the Mail User Agent mentioned in #9?
-
- Again, thanks for your net.wisdom. Look forward to hearing from you.
-
- Regards,
-
